Our Health Careers Academy juniors are working at Logan Acres this week to earn the required number of clinical hours to take the STNA exam. Once students earn their STNA, they'll have the knowledge and skills to fill the in-demand jobs in our community. Congratulations to our Education Academy seniors who all successfully earned their Paraprofessional Certification last week! A special shoutout to Shyayne who earned a perfect 480/480 and Jack who scored a 479/480. These future educators are now one step closer to their career goals.

Our Nail Tech students enjoyed hearing from Margarita Richards, Recruiting Manager at The W Nail Bar in Columbus, about the business and how students can set themselves up for success in their future careers.

English students in Mrs. Smith's and Mr. Knurek's classes are reading the novel “Undefeated” by Steve Sheinkin, which details the efforts and achievements of American athlete and Olympic gold medalist Jim Thorpe. Thorpe was a professional football, basketball, and baseball player and was the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United Sates in the Olympics. The students then participated in a team-oriented field goal competition where they attempted to "kick" handmade triangle footballs into a classroom-sized field goal.
Our BPA students at Riverside High School presented their BPA projects to a collection of community leaders today in preparation for their state competition in March. The community leaders were able to provide feedback, ask questions, and give encouragement to the students to help them be as ready as possible.
Our Culinary students did awesome at their FCCLA Regional Competition on Saturday. Congratulations to Cal Fergus on receiving a Gold in Culinary Arts and Blake Counts and Hayley Kitzmiller on receiving a Silver in Baking and Pastry! Nice job! We'll know final results from the regional competition for who is advancing to the state FCCLA competition by March 15.
Thank you to the Champaign County Municipal Court and Magistrate Grinvalds for allowing our Criminal Justice students to watch alignment hearings last Friday. It was a great learning experience for our students!
Good luck to our FCCLA Culinary students competing at regionals today! They've been busy preparing and practicing. Earlier this week, Blake and Hayley worked on eclairs, and Caleb prepared a meal using a protein, vegetable, and starch.
The Welding & Fab students had a great time visiting the Local 776 Pipefitters facility in Lima yesterday.
Training coordinator, Kiel Dennison, spoke candidly to students about the seriousness of their training and how professional attitudes & behaviors are a must. They learned of the big money potential available to skilled laborers chosen to enter their apprenticeship program. But they also learned of the self discipline necessary to be selected.
This was followed by Jason Newell giving a pipe weld demonstration and teaching students proper methods of how they want their trainees to manipulate molten weld pools on pipe.
Following the visit, students ate at the famous Kewpee restaurant.
Our Health Careers Academy juniors participated in an Ares manikin training earlier this week. The new Ares manikin in the HCA lab is designed for students to gain hands-on and realistic advanced life support (ALS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) training.
Friday Science lesson! Did you know your blood is made up of liquid and solids? Students made "blood" in class using water, oil, beads, sprinkles, marshmallows, and food coloring to represent the many components of blood like plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Our Exercise Science students had a great day this week learning from Licensed Massage Therapist Courtnie Judy from A Peaceful Place Massage Company. Courtnie walked the students through relaxation, recovery, and cupping techniques. Thank you for spending your afternoon with our students!

The Education Academy students are selling Yuda Bands this week during lunches. For $10 you can pick out a custom made bracelet and help support a student's education in Zimbabwe. They will also be selling them during tonight's Student Spotlight Night! Wear a band. Change a life!
Nine Ohio Hi-Point Career Center students advanced to the Ohio SkillsUSA competition after placing in the top three in the regional competition on Saturday, Feb. 18. The following students will compete in Columbus at the state competition in March.

Jasmine from Great Clips was on campus today to help judge the Cosmetology barbering competition. The winner will advance to represent OHP in barbering at the SkillsUSA State Competition. The winner will be announced tomorrow!
