Chloe Hattery, a student in the Ohio Hi-Point/Kenton Allied Health and Nursing program, earned second place in the Phlebotomy event at the HOSA International Leadership Conference, held June 17-22 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The weeklong conference, designed for future healthcare professionals, brought together thousands of students, advisors, and health professionals for competitive events, leadership training, and career development.
Hattery advanced to the international competition after qualifying at the Ohio HOSA competition. The Phlebotomy event consisted of two parts: a 50-question written exam, followed by a skills assessment for the top 30 scorers. Final rankings were based on a combined average of the written and practical test scores.
"She worked really hard to get to this point," said Amanda Bookmyer, OHP/Kenton Allied Health and Nursing instructor. "Second place in the nation is very impressive. We’re incredibly proud of her."
Joining Hattery at the conference were Kinzie Bernard from the OHP Campus Health Careers Academy and HOSA Chapter, as well as Sophia Bakalas and Aubrey Montgomery from the OHP/Marysville Early College High School Allied Health and Nursing program and HOSA Chapter.
In addition to competing, Ohio Hi-Point’s national competitors and staff had the opportunity to attend the Grand Ole Opry, take a backstage tour, and cruise the Cumberland River on the General Jackson Showboat.
The OHP Allied Health and Nursing programs at Kenton High School and Marysville Early College High School are satellite programs through Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, which bring career programs directly to the partner districts.
