ROX

Eight students in Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s ROX group spent the day in downtown Bellefontaine on Thursday, May 1, engaging with local female leaders to learn more about leadership, as well as the professional wins and challenges women face in business.

The students are part of ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences), a research-based program focused on empowering girls to lead in all aspects of their lives – from relationships to academics – while building confidence, leadership skills, and perseverance.

Organized by OHP school counselors and ROX advisors Rachel Schroeder and Samantha Gessler in collaboration with Lydia Hess, director of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, the students visited local businesses and organizations, meeting with community leaders who shared their educational and professional backgrounds, career journeys, obstacles they’ve overcome, and advice for young women pursuing leadership roles.

Business stops and speakers included: Sarah Lewis with Native Coffee, Rachelle Dapice with The Syndicate, Susie Jarvis with The Photo Booth, Andrea Wrocklage and Ruth Bayles with Hi-Point Business Solutions, Tara Bair with Community Health and Wellness Partners, and Bethany Watts with Richwood Bank. The group also enjoyed a Lunch and Leadership Chat with Brittany Saxton, owner of Six Hundred Downtown.

The students asked thoughtful questions about careers, leadership, and the importance of mentorship.

“This experience provided students with a meaningful opportunity to see strong leadership in action,” said Samantha Gessler. “Hearing how these women have carved out their paths, how they handle challenges, and seeing the impact they have in the community is very inspiring for our students.”

Students involved in the ROX program are Iris Burcham, Lilly Hyder, Gabrielle Parker, Ava Pinks, Briana Popovich, Kate Stahler, Mackenzie Tooker, and Mahala Weber.
