Several Ohio Hi-Point students achieved notable success at the SkillsUSA Southwest Regional competition held on Saturday, Feb.10, securing spots in the upcoming state competition in Columbus this April.

The OHP welding/fabrication team of Tucker Thompson (Graham), Kale Ingle (Marysville), and Kane Gibson (Benjamin Logan) earned third place, showcasing their skills with a distinguished finished product.

Jacob Roth (Benjamin Logan) also claimed third in the individual welder category, earning a $2,000 Hobart scholarship and, along with the team, received high-end Lincoln welding hoods for their efforts.

In other categories, Kaleb Pond (Home schooled) placed second in Automotive Service Technology, while Carly Goodman (Triad) took fourth in Digital Design.

Several more Ohio Hi-Point students will compete in a variety of other competitions at the final Southwest Regional Competition on Friday, Feb. 23 at Butler Tech.

Thompson, Ingle, Gibson, Roth, Pond, as well as others who advance from the February 23 contest, are set to continue their journey at the SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships. This prestigious event, gathering over 5,000 competitors, business and industry partners, instructors, and vendors, showcases over 100 contests across all 16 Career Pathways. It is a testament to the excellence of Career and Technical Education in Ohio, providing students a platform to compete for the title of the best in their respective fields.
