Filing a Compliant - Procedure
If any person believes that the Ohio Hi-Point School District or any of the District's staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of (1) Title II, VI, and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, (2) Title IX of the Education Amendment Act of 1972, (3) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, (4) The Age Act, and (5) The Americans with Disabilities Act, s/he may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance, to the District's Civil Rights Coordinator.
The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with an answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:
Step 1: A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the District's Civil Rights Coordinator within five business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint. The Coordinator shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the complainant within five business days.
Step 2: If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, s/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the Superintendent of Schools within five business days after receipt of the Coordinator's response. The Superintendent shall meet with all parties involved, formulate a conclusion, and respond in writing to the complainant within ten business days.
Step 3: If the complainant remains unsatisfied, s/he may appeal through a signed written statement to the Board of Education within five business days of his/her receipt of the Superintendent's response in step two. In an attempt to resolve the grievance, the Board of Education shall meet with the concerned parties and their representative within twenty days of the receipt of such an appeal. A copy of the Board's disposition of the appeal shall be sent to each concerned party within ten business days of this meeting. 40
Step 4: If at this point the grievance has not been satisfactorily settled, further appeal may be made to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, 600 Superior Avenue, Room 750, Cleveland, Ohio 44114.
Inquiries concerning the nondiscriminatory policy may be directed to Director, Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, 400 Maryland Ave., SW, Washington, D.C. 20202-1100. The District's Coordinator, on request, will provide a copy of the District's grievance procedure and investigate all complaints in accordance with this procedure. An online education and career planning tool has been developed to assist students in developing education and career plans! This was developed by the Ohio Director of Job and Family Services, in consultation with the Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation In compliance with ORC6301.15.
Ohio Means Jobs K-12 is a comprehensive planning tool that includes features such as a/an:
- Guided tour and recommended activities
- Online backpack to save and view information
- Career interest survey
- Career information by keyword or industry
- Budget and cost of living tools and information

Emergency Communication Guidelines for Parents and Guardians
The safety and security of our students and staff are top priorities for Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. The district has a comprehensive crisis plan and district administrators work closely with local emergency responders and law enforcement to monitor and update plans on a regular basis.
In addition, the district has well-established security measures to ensure the wellbeing of students and staff. These include: visitor check-in procedures, locked doors after the start of the school day, and surveillance cameras.
Before a School Emergency
To ensure every parent/guardian has the most accurate information in the event of an emergency, please make sure your student’s emergency contact information is current. To update this information, please contact Ohio Hi-Point’s Health & Safety Coordinator at (937) 599-3010 ext. 1347.
Ohio Hi-Point utilizes a mass call and text messaging service to notify parent(s)/guardian(s) of emergency situations. Please download Ohio Hi-Point’s app to stay up-to-date on the district and allow “push notifications” in the settings. Search for Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in the Apple Store or Google Play and download the app for free.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) should be aware of where they can obtain information from the district by following the district’s communication channels including Ohio Hi-Point’s Facebook (www.Facebook.com/ohiohipointcc), Twitter (@ohiohipoint), and website (www.ohiohipoint.com) pages.
During a School Emergency
Trust that during an emergency Ohio Hi-Point’s first priority is the safety and protection of students. Once students are safe and the district has full and accurate information regarding the situation, communication efforts to parents will be initiated. Trust that staff and students are prepared for emergency situations. The district participates in emergency drills throughout the year, and staff and emergency responders know the best procedures for keeping students safe.
Please do not call the school. It is essential to keep phone lines open so district officials can make outgoing emergency calls. If students are ill or injured, the parents of those students will be notified first.
Please do not go to the school. In the case of a high-impact emergency on campus or at a school-sponsored activity, access to the campus will be limited and controlled by fire or police officials.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to remain close to their sources of communication to ensure they are receiving accurate and timely updates from the district. Please reassure your student you will be contacted by Ohio Hi-Point and you will be reunited with them as soon as it is safe to do so.

After a School Emergency
How will I be reunited with my child?
Parent(s)/guardian(s) will be directed by school or local law enforcement to their student’s specific location. This information will be distributed via the above emergency communication outlets listed.
The district will only release students to authorized persons after checking proof of identity and signing a student release form.
Ohio Hi-Point understands the anxiety parents feel when there is potential danger to children. It’s important to remain calm, follow procedures, and cooperate with district and local emergency responders and law enforcement. The reunification process can be time-consuming, so everyone is urged to be patient.
After the safety and status of students and staff have been assured and emergency conditions have abated, staff, teachers, and school officials will work to return to a normal school routine as quickly as possible.
The district will provide tools and resources for students and families including school counselors, grief counselors, and human services professionals to work with individuals and groups.
Communication regarding follow-up developments will continue with parents.
Discussions and debriefings with staff and responders will occur to evaluate the district’s crisis response and recommend adjustments as appropriate.
