Did you know the trucking industry moves an average of $10 billion dollars of goods each year? To deliver these goods, safe and reliable trucks are crucial to keep the economy moving. In our Diesel program, students worked on brakes last week. The skills they're learning will prepare them to become ASE certified in a variety of specialities and equip them for college or a career after graduation.

Jared Salyer, a Welding senior, is currently working at Dovetail Metal Signs and Designs as part of OHP's Work-Based Learning program (formerly School-to-Work). The steel rack with him is a project he built and welded for House of Szechwan in Bellefontaine. Jared also helped with much of the ornate steel work found in The Syndicate in downtown Bellefontaine.

Ohio Hi-Point's Flexible Learning Plan for the 2020-21 school year was approved by the Board of Education during last night's meeting. The Flexible Learning Plan is a blend of face-to-face and independent/remote learning. The goal of the plan is to safely maximize the amount of hands-on learning time our students receive in our career technical labs while also engaging in a flipped classroom environment for academics. Last week, Summer Dow and McKalia Hageman, both Animal Science students, along with the help of Logan County Bee Inspector, Nate Davis, and Teen Eco-Summit Advisor, Becky Nellis from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, installed two bee hives on campus. The bee hives were placed in the pollinator garden which the Animal Science and Outdoor Careers students established on campus. The hives were made possible through grants from the Logan County Farm Bureau and Battelle Research Institute.

Our Animal Science seniors took a virtual study trip to a hog farm in Versailles today. Jacob Weubker, an FFA member, spoke about his family farm that raises several thousand hogs annually. He also shared aspects of nutrition and disease control, as well as how they try to protect the environment while farming. What a cool opportunity!

The Teen Eco Summit team applied for grant money and presented to a panel of judges during the Teen Eco Summit at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on November 7. Iām happy to share that our Animal Science students earned $3,500 in grant money from Battelle Research Institute ($1,000) and the Logan County Impact Fund ($2,500) which will help establish bee hives in the pollinator garden!
