"Connecting Your Passions, Your Dreams"

Animal Science

The Animal Science program at Ohio Hi-Point offers a foundation for anyone wanting a career in any part of the Animal Industry. Over the 2 years students are enrolled in Animal Science, they take courses in Companion Animal Selection, Nutrition, and Reproduction; Animal Health; Livestock Nutrition, Selection, and Reproduction: and Vet Science. There is also an elective called Introduction to Zoo and Aquarium that is available.

Most program graduates choose to continue their education at either a 2- or 4-year college, majoring in areas such as Equine Management, Nature Interpretation, Wildlife Management, Zoology, Marine Biology, and Animal Assisted Therapy.

Students interact with animals every day and are exposed to a wide variety of companion and exotic animals. Study trips and guest speakers compliment the instruction that is happening in the lab. Students run a grooming salon that is open to the public. This provides experience with dogs, while learning the skills necessary to work in a grooming salon. The salon is also how the program's FFA chapter makes money to finance the Animal Science FFA activities.

Students are members of FFA and as such, enjoy a variety of activities while learning leadership and team-building skills. FFA members are also involved in Career Development Events and frequently travel to compete in events like Nature Interpretation, Equine Management, Wildlife Management, Animal Management, and Aquarium Management.
