Superintendent Davis leaving to take top job at Tolles Career and Technical Center
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio – Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Superintendent Kim Davis has announced that she accepted the position of superintendent with Tolles Career and Technical Center in Plain City, Ohio. Davis leaves Ohio Hi-Point after eight years with the district. Her last day at Ohio Hi-Point is July 29, 2011 and she will begin at Tolles effective August 1, 2011.
“The past eight years at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center have been an amazing experience and a privilege for me. Through the talents and dedication of our staff and the support of our Board of Education, we have more than doubled the number of high school and adult education students our programs serve. Those numbers have had a huge impact on workforce development in our region, and we're very proud of that,” said Davis. “I'm especially proud of the expansion we've seen through our satellite programs in all five counties we serve and the opening of our North and South campuses in Kenton and Urbana; the support in all of those communities has been tremendous.”
Since 2003 Davis has overseen a period of impressive growth and success. An increase in enrollment at the high school, a revitalized adult and continuing education program, and an expansion of programming through high school and adult satellites, including the opening of a South Campus in Urbana and a North Campus in Kenton are just some of the accomplishments she has helped to lead.
“Kim Davis has been an asset to and a leader in career and technical education. She has worked diligently along with her administrative team and staff to align the curriculum with the job market and has encouraged and supported continuing education for the staff to keep them on the cutting edge of career technology," said Anne Reames, president of the Ohio Hi-Point Board of Education representing Bellefontaine City Schools. "We have seen the expansion of our satellite programs under her guidance and planning. She always took a team approach to move the Career Center to the fine academic presence it is for our 14 partner high schools. Career-technical education is a known asset to the academic community. It is this way because of her dedication and love of this option to both the high school and adult learner. The Board of Education wishes her the best in her professional move."
Davis has a passion for career and technical education, which began as a career-technical business student in high school. She served as a high school and adult education business teacher for 14 years before spending time in the private sector as an educational editor with South-Western Publishing Company. Prior to arriving at OHP, Davis was career-technical director at Stebbins High School in Dayton, Ohio, for five years. A graduate of Bowling Green State University (B.S. in business education), Davis also received an M.Ed in personnel training and development from Xavier University and her Education Specialist degree in educational administration from Wright State University. She is the current president of the Ohio Association of Career-Technical Superintendents (OACTS).
“While I'll miss all the friends I've made and colleagues I've worked with over these past eight years, I'm confident I'm leaving Ohio Hi-Point in the hands of the finest administrative, teaching, and support staff in the state--the great work for the benefit of students will continue,” offered Davis.
The Board of Education will devise a plan of action for finding a replacement for Davis and will announce the timeline of the search in the coming weeks.
