Students from Ohio Hi-Point’s Supply Chain Management Satellite program at Urbana High School now hold the title of entrepreneurs.
After a challenging and rewarding year, students have successful created and implemented an online shop, e-store, for consumers to purchase Ohio Hi-Point merchandise.
The online store, found at www.ohpestore.com, offers consumers the basic apparel for any high school student or parent: t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants as well as accessories to use in everyday life such as laptop skins, ID holders and drawstring bags.
“We’re very excited to finally have the store up and running,” stated Kaley Moss, one of the students in the Supply Chain Management program. “It was a lot of hard work and definitely a learning experience.”
Instructor Sharon Maurice agreed, “Everything seems simple in theory, but there are multiple factors in the business world the students had to overcome to become successful.”
Ohio Hi-Point’s Alumni and Friends Association ignited the learning experience by posing the question to sell OHP merchandise..
“We originally were going to help with the inventory and then this project just sort of took off and here we are with a full virtual store-front!” stated Maurice.
Students created a list of products and designs from a survey they conducted last year to identify students’ wants and needs, ordered the product and priced each product.
The next step was creating the ins and outs of the shop. Students designed and created the website and then planned accordingly for payment methods, thank you cards and shipping materials.
“I’m proud of them,” Maurice said, “This was a very big challenge for them to undertake on top of regular scheduled lessons and DECA Competitions.
The merchandise brings an updated and new twist to the recognizable OHP logo.
“Our clothing and accessories are designed as a more trendy look, something we think the student and parents to will want to wear and sport with pride,” stated Moss. “It’s really a two-fold project that students and parents can wear OHP clothing with pride and in return they are helping further the education for the scholarship recipients.”
Tag-teaming with the Supply Chain Management class was Rath Information Systems located in Bellefontaine. Terri Schneider, President and CEO at Rath, worked closely with the students to organize, design and handle product shipping.
“As an Alumni of Ohio Hi-Point I was more than happy to help,” commented Schneider.
While reflecting on working with a group of students seeking to run a business Terri was impressed with her client.
“I was amazed at how the students handled themselves. They were very inquisitive and knowledgeable about what they wanted and that’s what you need in business. It was a very great experience for me to work with these young entrepreneurs,” finished Schneider.
Nearly a year later, the store is in business, ready to handle your OHP merchandise gear. To make your purchase, go to ohpestore.com today!
