Ohio Hi-Point set to host open house in Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – Ohio Hi-Point Career Center will host an Open House to highlight programs available to both high school and adult learners at the Urbana South Campus location, 1412 North Main Street on July 4, 2010, from 2-4 p.m.  The event will coincide with the annual Rotary Club BBQ and Fireworks Festival held at the airport.

           

            The Open House will feature various workshops and informative sessions with the following programs and activities open to the general public:

·       Teaching Professions Academy

Internet Safety is an issue that cannot be ignored in society today.  Predators, bullying, illegal downloading, scams, spam, and viruses are just a few of the issues that each of us may face.  This one-hour presentation, provided by I-Safe teen Mentors, will share tips on how to use the Internet safely and securely.

 

·       Biomedical Sciences

Like video games?  Check this out!  Test your reaction times and visual perception of images!

 

·       Aviation Occupations

Interested in aviation?  Just like airplanes?  Try your hand at simple aircraft sheet metal techniques.  Fly historic aircraft using PC Flight Simulation from the Wright Brothers up to the latest jets.

 

·       Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)
The HVAC technician can do amazing things. Come see how to boil water at room temperature. Then learn three easy things that anyone can do to decrease their HVAC-R energy costs and extend the equipment life.

 

·       Health Occupations

Are you interested in healthcare, but not sure that nursing is right for you? Stop in to pick up some information about our state tested nurse aid classes, phlebotomy classes, pharmacy technician program, and health information technology program. Information will also be available about other short-term classes such as medical terminology, sign language for healthcare workers, dining assistant, IV therapy for nurses, and medical coding update classes.

 

·       Practical Nursing

Nursing is an exciting and adventurous career. You can open the door to a career in healthcare by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.  From there your options are without boundaries.  Stop and pick up some information on the Nancy J. Knight School of Nursing and get started on your career. College credit agreements are available with Franklin University for Healthcare Administration and with Clark State Community College for Registered Nursing.

 

·       Financial Aid

Would you like to go to school and start a new career, but don’t know how you would pay for it?  Information on financial aid options and how to apply will be available.  Ohio Hi-Point has programs that are approved for federal financial aid and can direct you to local sources.
