Teaching Professions student wins coveted scholarship

MARYSVILLE – Allison Mazza, a senior in the Teaching Professions Academy Satellite at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, and a member of the local Future Educators Association® chapter at Marysville High School, has received a 2010 PDK International Prospective Educator Scholarship. Mazza was selected for this scholarship because of her excellence in academics, as well as her interest in pursuing a career in education. She has served this year as the FEA-Ohio State Vice President and Public Relations Officer.  Mazza presided over the recent FEA-Ohio State Conference, held at Kent State University.

A $500 renewable grant was awarded to Mazza through the Wilmer and Sal Bugher Endowed Scholarship. She plans to use this scholarship to study education at Bowling Green State University.

Each year, PDK International, a professional association for educators, and the PDK Educational Foundation jointly award 45 scholarships to students who are pursuing a career in education. Mazza was eligible for these scholarships because of her affiliation with the Future Educators Association (FEA), which is sponsored by PDK International. A three-member committee composed of PDK International members selected Mazza from more than 275 applicants from around the world.  The criteria used to evaluate the applications included academic achievement, letters of recommendation, a written essay, and proven leadership in school and community activities.

“Allison clearly embodies the traits and qualities that an excellent educator should have,” said Bill Bushaw, PDK International executive director. “By identifying and supporting students like Allison, PDK is cultivating the next generation of great educators.”
