Program Description

This program prepares students for employment in child care and early education careers. Students are trained in the operation of a licensed pre-school for children ages six weeks through five years. Students gain training in areas such as: communicating with children, writing lesson plans, conducting field trips and caring for special needs children. They will also learn to communicate with parents, use audio-visual equipment, and plan and implement activities for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers.

Program highlights:

  • The students enrolling in this program will run an infant/ toddler center and a preschool.
  • They will receive First Aid/CPR training, Communicable Disease training, Child Abuse prevention training, and step up to quality training for infant/toddler centers.

Post-Secondary Options

Graduates of this program may enroll in Early Childhood Education programs at community colleges to obtain their Pre-K teaching certificate or at four year colleges for teacher licensure and certification. They may also attend a nanny school.

Students are members of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), a career-technical student organization.
